A Longmont couple who allegedly ran a marijuana operation from their home have been charged with cultivation of marijuana and child abuse.

The suspects were identified as Michael Wild, 33, and Brittany Wild, 28, who live in the 1000 block of East Longs Peak Avenue.

Authorities said that when they responded to a disturbance call at the home on Wednesday afternoon, they discovered a partially dismantled marijuana-cultivation operation in the basement, where they believe at least a dozen marijuana plants had been growing earlier in the day.

Investigators allege that the couple had harvested all but two of the plants prior to their arrival. The two remaining were described by investigators as “starter plants.”

Also found at the residence was half a pound of loose, discarded marijuana; an electronic scale; 200 plastic sandwich baggies; and an electric drying machine.

Longmont Police Sgt. Joel Post said numerous items belonging to the couple’s child were found in the marijuana “grow room,” including school paperwork and other educational material.

The Colorado Department of Social Services was notified, and the child was placed with relatives.
