PHOENIX—The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed their top draft pick, left-handed pitcher Daniel Schlereth.

The D-backs say the 22-year-old University of Arizona star will join the club’s minor league club in Missoula, Montana.

Schlereth, who is from Lone Tree, Colorado, was picked by the Oakland Athletics in the eighth round of last year’s draft before resuming his college career in Tucson.

The D-backs picked him this year in the first round, making him the 26th player taken overall.

Schlereth’s father, Mark, played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos. He currently is an NFL analyst for ESPN.
