After an early-morning standoff in the outskirts of Castle Rock, Douglas County SWAT officers arrested a drunken man on suspicion of making threats and shooting a shotgun, authorities say.
The man was arrested in his home on the 2000 block of Wolfensberger Road without incident at about 8 a.m. following a four-hour standoff, said Cocha Heyden, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
The sheriff’s office received an emergency call at 4:11 a.m. from a woman inside a home in which at least 15 people, including children, were staying, Heyden said. Most of the people in the home were sleeping, she said.
“There was a report of a gunshot,” she said. “The suspect was making threats to people on their way to the house.”
The man may have made threats over the phone to acquaintances who said they were coming to the home, Heyden said.
The SWAT team set up a perimeter around the house and made contact with the woman. A standoff ensued for several hours, Heyden said.
Three occupants of the home, including the woman who made the initial 911 call, snuck out of the house about 6 a.m. It was unclear whether anyone inside the home was held hostage or threatened by the gunman, whose identity has not been released.
SWAT team members got the remaining occupants, none of whom were harmed, out of the home and arrested the suspect, Heyden said.
The suspect, who was taken to the Douglas County Jail, could face a possible menacing charge, she said.
Authorities continue to question witnesses about the encounter, Heyden said.
