A man was pronounced dead late Friday night after being ejected from an SUV carrying eight people that lost control and rolled over two times off of Interstate 70 in Eagle County, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Alcohol is expected to have been a factor in the accident, according to the patrol.
The patrol reported that none of the passengers had ID on them, and police spokesman Ron Watkins said they have not been identified and their families have not been notified.
“When they don’t have IDs, it makes it very difficult to identify them,” said Master Trooper Ron Watkins, a public information officer.
All eight passengers were expected to be between the ages of 16 and 22, according to the patrol.
No details on the age of the driver or deceased were given.
At approximately 11:50 p.m Friday, a women lost control of a 1999 Ford Expedition heading westbound on I-70 and ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle rolled over two full times, ejecting a man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was not wearing a seatbelt. The exact cause of death is unknown.
The driver and another female passenger were the only ones wearing seatbelts, according to the state patrol.
The seven survivors suffered minor to moderate injuries and were treated and released from Vail Valley Medical Center. No other vehicles were reported to be involved.
