High temperatures and abundant sunshine over the weekend are expected to elevate ozone concentrations to unhealthy levels, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
An ozone alert was issued and is in effect along the Front Range until 4 p.m. today.
Ozone levels on Friday evening reached the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” level in Fort Collins.
On Saturday afternoon, air quality in Denver and along the Front Range was classified as “moderate.”
Children and adults and especially people with respiratory problems should limit outdoor exposure today, according to the alert.
Saturday’s high temperature was 98 degrees, three degrees shy of the record for the date.
Hot and sunny conditions will continue today, with temperatures predicted to top out at 100 degrees in Denver.
The National Weather Service forecasts light winds from the southeast today, with gusts up to 23 mph tonight.
Temperatures are expected to stay in the mid-90s early this week, with a slight chance of rain Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
