WELD COUNTY — Several lightning-sparked fires began burning near Loch Buie in Weld County just before 10 p.m. tonight.
Weld County sheriff’s deputy Shane Scofield said authorities evacuated an unknown number of homes in an area bounded by county roads 8 and 4 to the north and south and by county roads 31 and 37 to the west and east.
By 11:30 p.m. tonight the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department reported that the fires were contained and residents could return to their homes.
In southwest Colorado, firefighters spotted the Round Top Fire near Fort Lewis Mesa at about 3:30 p.m. As of 8 p.m. tonight the lightning-sparked fire had grown to about 100 acres.
Durango Interagency Dispatch spokesman Mark Lauer said firefighters were being helped by a light rain by 9 p.m. No structures were threatened.
