Ian Stewart, showing signs of finally breaking out against big-league pitching, gives credit to hitting coach Alan Cockrell, who borrowed a few things from Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols during the all-star break. “Back at the All-Star Game, ‘Ace’ got some feedback from them. They hit off the tee religiously, and he’s going to show me some of their drills,” said Stewart, who on Sunday went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Cockrell has also encouraged Stewart to use more hands and less body when he swings.
Home run Baker.
Jeff Baker hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth, his team-leading fifth go-ahead homer this season. Baker, starting at second base, went 3-for-4, bumping his average to .277.
Double trouble.
The Rockies’ 15-hit parade included 11 extra-base hits, eight of which were doubles — one shy of the club record set July 2, 1993, against the Cubs.
