We have decided to stay in our home and want to invest in pieces that can add some “wow” factor. How can we start to make a big impact without spending an enormous amount of money?
Try upgrading one element at a time in your home, like lighting, to quickly make an impact. Lighting is often the most overlooked design area and can create some real “wow.” Many homes have light fixtures that were chosen by the original builder with more thought to general acceptability and price. These are often dated and aren’t very distinctive.
Whether your style is traditional or contemporary, look for a replacement that could be new, antique or even secondhand but that has tons of personality. Don’t be afraid to use a larger fixture than the one you are replacing; just make sure that you hang it so you avoid bumping any heads. If you are in love with a piece, but are thinking about whether it would work for eventual resale, just be sure to save the fixture that you are taking down and pack it safely so you can put it back when you are ready to move.
