VAIL, Colo.—Investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are looking into a crane accident in Vail that slowed traffic on Interstate 70 for several hours.
No injuries were reported in the accident that occurred just after noon Wednesday.
Deputy Fire Chief Mike McGee says a 40-ton crane being used by HI Cranes Inc. of Eagle was being used to hoist lumber at the Vail Spa Condominiums complex when the crane became unstable and tipped.
The 32-condo project under construction is owned by East West Resorts.
Fire Capt. Jim Spell says welders worked late into the afternoon to cut up the crane boom to remove it from a frontage road, but motorists hoping to catch a glimpse of the debris were slowing traffic.
A full investigation could take several weeks.
