Secondhand chic. After reading last week’s Room cover story about the many Denver hotels undergoing renovations, William Barnes with National Hotel Liquidators sent out this alert for penny pinchers: An array of durable high-end furnishings, electronics, appliances and artwork formerly found in hotels is available to buy for a sliver of the original retail price at NHL’s retail warehouse, 900 E. 104th Ave., Thornton. “We’ve got Westin Tabor Center, Magnolia and Teatro,” Barnes said about furnishings available from area hotels, in addition to recently arrived merchandise from around the region. Warehouse hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays. Check out

Dapper sunrooms. Patio Enclosures Inc. is a national sunroom manufacturer with a local design center at 6776 E. 47th Ave. Drive in Denver. Because there are as many types of sunrooms as there are homes, the company compiled this list of things to consider when designing an ideal sunroom (more at ):
Make sure the roof of any new sunroom matches your home’s existing roof. Energy Star-rated insulated panels, or the ability to craft custom, wood or glass roofs, is a plus when shopping around for materials;
Research trim and molding. Blinds and shades also can enhance your sunroom’s looks and comfort by providing greater privacy;
Glass options. A sunroom is typically composed of 70 to 95 percent glass. Depending on the planned use of your sunroom and orientation to the sun, single-pane glass may be sufficient. But if you plan to extend the seasonal use of your sunroom or use the room year-round, double-pane insulated glass should be considered;
Screens. Unless you want to invite bugs and other critters inside when you open a window, screens are key. Nylon and fiberglass screens are less durable than aluminum screens. Screen panel frames on steel ball-bearing and nylon wheel rollers reduce track wear and eliminate rust and sticking.
