The publisher of The Dallas Morning News and three other newspapers, reported a second-quarter loss Monday and said it was cutting 500 jobs, or 14 percent of its workforce.

The publishing company cited a sharp drop in newspaper advertising revenue for the loss for the three months ended June 30 and said it expects losses for the rest of the year.

The Dallas-based company reported a loss of $3.2 million, or 16 cents per share, compared to net income of $12.3 million, or 60 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue fell 15 percent to $163.3 million.
