Getting your player ready...

If the annual ascent of the Alps didn’t get road cyclists into high gear, this weekend’s Copper Triangle ride surely will.

The Triangle — known in some circles as the “Leadville Loop” — is considered a Colorado classic alpine road ride. Beginning and ending Saturday at Copper Mountain Resort, the sag-supported, 78-mile loop crests three mountain passes (11,318-foot Fremont, 10,424- foot Tennessee and 10,666-foot Vail), offering spectacular scenery among several amply stocked aid stations. In addition to the memorable cycling experience, each rider will receive a commemorative jersey, a ticket to the Alpine Celebration postride barbecue party and a raffle ticket for the big gear giveaway.

Riders also have the opportunity to give back by turning the Triangle into a pledge ride for the Davis Phinney Foundation’s fight against Parkinson’s (www.davisphinneyfoundation.com/events/coppertriangle.asp). Online registration ($115) wraps up Wednesday at 11 a.m. with on-site registration ($130) available at Copper on Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning. Riding gets underway at 5:45 a.m. Discounted lodging is available.
