The Aurora City Council Monday night approved a measure that restricts temporary employment agencies from being within 1,500 feet of one another.
Immigrant-rights advocates say the move targets day laborers who gather on Dayton Street just north of East Colfax Avenue.
The ordinance passed by the council now includes nonprofits along with for-profit agencies. A nonprofit group that helps day laborers in Denver was working with Aurora to secure a permanent site on Dayton. However, there is already a for-profit agency next to the Dayton site so the group must find a different location.
City officials would like the group to find another place anyway, away from its arts district on East Colfax Avenue. They also say the current site where the day laborers have been gathering is dangerous.
