When we chose Colorado as the topic for this week’s $25 Haiku Contest, we didn’t mention our sneaky reason: Colorado Day is the first Monday in August, which falls on Aug. 4 this year. Writers were uniformly inspired by the state’s natural beauty and we felt this verse by Jane Morton of Colorado Springs captures the unique geographical appeal of the Centennial State:
