VANCOUVER, British Columbia — A massive rock slide has severed the only direct highway between Vancouver and the famed resort town of Whistler, both venues for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The boulders fell late Tuesday night about halfway between Vancouver and Whist ler, covering the Sea to Sky Highway and nearby railway tracks with as much as 16,000 cubic tons of rock piles up to 30 feet deep and 100 feet wide.

Police said there were no reports of any injuries but that they were using dogs to check through the slide to make sure no vehicles were buried.
