Heather Ridge Country Club in Aurora is closed indefinitely after the suicide of its owner and club president, Richard Jorgensen, Wednesday night.
Jorgensen, 70, died of single gunshot wound to the head fired by his pistol, said Arapahoe County coroner Mike Dobersen.
The country club’s 18-hole golf course straddles East Iliff Avenue a couple of blocks east of Interstate 225. The club was locked tight Thursday evening.
A sign on the door said it would remain closed “until further notice.” The voice mailboxes were full for the club’s top staff, presumably from the club’s more than 200 members about the fate of the 35-year-old facility.
The golf course and club has been on and off the market in recent years, the target of concern by neighbors that the property might be redeveloped in 2006.
