Nuggets rookie Sonny Weems had surgery Thursday to repair a sports hernia.

Weems, a second-round pick who was acquired by the Nuggets on draft night, is expected to fully recover in time for the Sept. 30 start of training camp.

The Chicago Bulls selected Weems 39th overall out of Arkansas, then traded him to the Nuggets for a 2009 second-round pick.

Weems played five games for the Nuggets’ Summer League team, averaging 9.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 22 minutes.

New radio home for Avalanche, Nuggets.

Kroenke Sports Enterprises has found a new spot on the radio dial for all Avalanche and Nuggets games: AM 1510, a.k.a. Mile High Sports Radio.

The agreement includes all preseason and postseason games as well. A radio schedule for when both teams play in the same time frame will be announced later.

CC loses softball coach.

Colorado College is looking for a new softball coach after Tina Johnson resigned to restart the softball program at Weber State.

Rage inks ECHL vet.

The Rocky Mountain Rage signed John Snowden, who made the ECHL all-star team in his rookie season in 2004. He also has played in the American Hockey League and in Germany.

The native of Snohomish, Wash., is entering his sixth year as a pro. Last season, Snowden scored 55 points in 38 games for the Rosenheim Star Bulls in Germany, then returned to the U.S. to finish the season with the Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL.
