GREELEY, Colo.—A Weld County judge has ruled against a teen’s request for a permanent restraining order against Greeley Mayor Ed Clark, who allegedly threw the teen to the ground when he wouldn’t get off a motorbike he was riding in a neighborhood.
The judge ruled Thursday that using force to stop a traffic violation when there is no imminent threat of bodily harm is unreasonable but that a repeat of Clark’s actions was unlikely.
Fifteen-year-old Remington Stitt and his parents had sought a restraining order against Clark in June after the run-in.
“This has been the worst six weeks of my life,” Clark testified Thursday. “I will never ever ever do that again.”
Stitt was cited for operating a motor vehicle without a license and driving an off-road vehicle on city roads. The Larimer County district attorney’s office declined to charge Clark.
Witnesses said Stitt, Clark and Clark’s wife, Erin, have a history of run-ins. Stitt and a teen friend said Erin Clark used obscenities in talking to them and that Ed Clark was aggressive and threatening to Stitt. The Clarks told investigators that Stitt would harass their children, was disrespectful and often cursed at them and around the neighborhood.
