Basketball and soccer fans have been looking forward to full coverage of their sports on the NBC Olympics specialty channels during the 2008 Summer Games from Beijing. Two channels will offer high-definition coverage of the entire men’s and women’s tournaments, 58 soccer games and 76 basketball games.
But fans in Colorado are out of luck unless they have satellite TV.
Comcast in Colorado will not carry the speciality sports channels, saying it must “balance competing interests.”
NBC disagrees.
An NBC spokesman said, “Comcast Corporate has done a deal with NBC Universal for the enhanced Olympic package, including the Olympic soccer and basketball channels. They are carrying those networks throughout the country. It is up to the individual systems to lauch them.”
Elsewhere in the country Comcast as well as ATT, Cox, Time Warner and Verizon cable systems and Dish and DirecTV satellite systems are signed on to carry the sports channels.
