Heavy rain is being predicted for much of south-central and southeastern Colorado tonight, Wednesday and Wednesday night as much cooler weather enters the state.
Throughout the afternoon, the National Weather Service has been issuing flood advisories that included the Hayman burn area in southwest Douglas County, southwest Jefferson County and east-central Park County.
Doppler radar has been picking up severe thunderstorms over much of eastern and southeastern Colorado.
Among the severe-thunderstorm warnings issued late this afternoon was one for western Adams County, northeastern Denver County and south-central Weld County.
Locations in that warning area included Watkins, Keenesburg, Denver International Airport, east-central Commerce City and northeastern Aurora.
The storm was severe enough that forecasters warned that it was capable of producing tornadoes.
Heavy rains are expected for the next 24 hours from Colorado Springs south and include Cañon City.
In the Colorado Springs area, rain could total a quarter of an inch or more.
On Wednesday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Colorado Springs and Cañon City areas, and the chance increases to 50 percent Wednesday night.
