COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A former Fort Carson soldier is now facing his second trial on charges that he murdered a college student.
Prosecutors on Tuesday began their case against 31-year-old Ryan Krueger. A co-defendant has said Krueger was the mastermind behind the 2001 killing of 19-year-old Patricia Ann Elliott of Colorado Springs.
A judge declared a mistrial in May when a jury failed to reach a verdict in Krueger’s first trial.
Prosecutors allege Elliott was dealing drugs she obtained from Krueger when he decided she was an informant. They contend he enlisted the help of Benjamin Gunvalsen and Christopher Allen to kill her.
The 29-year-old Allen was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Gunvalsen, 28, was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading to accessory charges.
