GREELEY, Colo.—A storm system triggered tornado warnings along the northern Front Range, including Denver, on Wednesday and heavy rain flooded streets during the evening commute.

The National Weather Service said the storm spawned funnel clouds and some weak tornadoes in the area north of Denver and in Weld County.

Weld County sheriff’s spokeswoman Margie Martinez said no damage from tornadoes was reported.

She said at least one lane of U.S. 85 to Greeley was flooded by heavy rain, but no major traffic problems were reported. Wind from the storm also knocked down trees and a building under construction near Platteville.

A flash flood warning remained in effect for northern El Paso County through early Thursday.

Thunderstorms in southwestern Colorado earlier in the afternoon also prompted flash flooding warnings.

In southern Colorado, a mud slide closed U.S. Highway 160 over La Veta Pass for about five hours. A lightning strike was suspected of causing a natural gas leak in Pueblo that led to the evacuation of 16 homes. No injuries were reported.

The rain forced the Colorado Rockies to delay the start of their game against the Washington Nationals. After about two hours, the team announced the game would be postponed and made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday.

The storm also brought cooler weather, ending Denver’s record-breaking streak of 90-degree days at 24. Grand Junction’s run also stopped Wednesday after 52 consecutive days with temperatures in the 90s or higher.
