DENVER—Prosecutors have rested their case against a man accused of murder and fatal child abuse in the starvation death of his 7-year-old ward.
Jon Phillips is accused in the May 2007 death of Chandler Grafner. Prosecutors say Chandler was forced to sleep and defecate in a small closet, was denied food and water and was physically abused.
He weighed 34 pounds when he died in May 2007.
Phillips’ attorney has said the boy died of undiagnosed diabetes. The defense began its presentation on Friday.
Phillips’ girlfriend, Sarah Berry, also faces murder and child abuse charges and will be tried separately.
