Denver Post sportswriter Chris Dempsey was one of several journalists honored Friday night by the Colorado Association of Black Journalists during its annual awards ceremony at the Marriot City Center.

Dempsey was named Print Journalist of the Year.

Special “Trailblazer” Awards were presented to Faye Wilson Tate, vice president and director of diversity for CH2M Hill, and Bertha Lynn, longtime anchor at KMGH-7News.

TaRhonda Thomas, a 9News reporter, was named Broadcast Journalist of the Year; Jan Thomas was named Public Relations Professional of the Year.

Fox 31 reporter and weekend anchor Jon Bowman won a Lifetime Achievement Award, and Kathy Walsh of CBS4 won the Kaiser Permanente “Thrive Award” for reporting disparities in health care.

The CABJ also announced the winners in its annual Scribes in Excellence contest. The Denver Post won 11 of these awards.
