As registration for free tickets available to see Sen. Barack Obama at Invesco Field at Mile High ends today, a pair of tickets are going for $3,650 at an online ticket-auction site.
“There are another four days to go on the auction, and I expect to see people bid it up at the end,” Eric Baker, chief executive of the auction site, Viagogo, said Monday.
“It’s hard to imagine a political candidate generating that sort of excitement,” Baker said. “Never would it have occurred to me that a political speech would have a secondary market.”
Officials with the Democratic National Convention Committee say a bar code on the so-called community credentials will prevent transfer of the tickets, but Baker said it’s “almost impossible” for event organizers to block the entrepreneurial mind.
