Just because the media compare Brandon Marshall to Terrell Owens doesn’t mean Marshall does.
“I respect his game, but … I don’t go out of my way just to watch film on him. I break down the top receivers, whether it’s T.O., Larry Fitzgerald or Chad Johnson. T.O. is just another guy I look at as a great athlete and one of the best receivers in the league.”
Marshall and Owens will share the same Dove Valley practice field today and Thursday when the Dallas Cowboys visit the Broncos’ training complex.
Is there anything Owens does better than any other NFL wideout?
“He works hard,” Marshall said. “I think what helps him a lot is his work ethic and being able to go out there on a daily basis and stay healthy.”
Montrae understands.
When Broncos right guard Montrae Holland returned to the practice field this week, his starting job wasn’t waiting for him. Holland had spent the first two weeks of training camp conditioning to get close to his reporting weight of 325 pounds.
His weight is fine, but the Broncos committed to putting Chris Kuper at right guard and Ryan Harris at right tackle. Holland is Kuper’s backup at right guard and there’s a chance the situation won’t change, at least not for a while.
“I missed what, 12 days, 14 days of camp?” Holland said. “I mean, it would be wrong to other guys if someone just came back and took their job back. Plus, I don’t feel like I’m right. I feel like I’m behind right now with my technique. I’ve got to get used to the reps. I’m playing catch-up, basically. It’s good to be back on the field, but I’m starting at ground zero.”
Footnotes.
Strong safety Hamza Abdullah, who has been sidelined the past 11 days with a strained groin, said he hopes to return to practice by Thursday, the prerequisite for playing in the preseason game Saturday. . . . If all goes well for Marshall, he will be reinstated by the commissioner from a two-game suspension on Sept. 15, then will have a court date Sept. 16 on a DUI charge, and on Tuesday another court date was rescheduled for Sept. 17 on a traffic offense. Then there is the game, Sept. 21 against New Orleans at Invesco Field. . . . The Broncos aren’t ready to consider veteran kicker Jay Feely, who was cut by Miami. Although Broncos kicker Matt Prater missed his first preseason field goal try from 30 yards Saturday at Houston, he made his next three, including a game-tying 26-yarder with 5:50 left. . . . The Broncos cut cornerback Lamont Reid and signed another cornerback, Wale Dada, who was waived Saturday by New Orleans. . . . Backup left guard Dylan Gandy practiced with a cast Tuesday after dislocating his right thumb. . . . Michael Pittman is getting most of his reps at fullback. Rookie fullback Peyton Hillis, who has missed most of camp with a hamstring injury, dressed and participated in a few individual drills but no team drills Tuesday.
