The fire began about 1 p.m. and was brought under control within an hour today by firefighters from the Eagle Fire Protection District and the Vail Fire Department.
Although black smoke billowed into the air immediately after the explosion, by 2:10 p.m., the fire was all but out, said an employee of the Vail Discount Tire store, located about 100 feet from the fire scene.
“It’s not that big,” he said.
Shannon Cordingly, spokesperson for the Eagle County Sheriff’s Department, said the fire broke out at 12:50 p.m. at Maximum Comfort Pool & Spa in the southeast corner of the building.
She said that the fire spread quickly to two vehicles parked nearby.
One person was transported to Vail Valley Medical Center, said Cordingly, although the individual’s condition is not known.
In addition to the Eagle and Vail firefighters, numerous other agencies responded to the scene.
