A man who fatally shot himself on a highway in front of a Denver police officer has been identified.
The death of Ian Rendon, 37, has been ruled a suicide by the Denver Coroner’s Office.
At about 3 a.m. Monday, a Denver officer followed a vehicle on westbound Sixth Avenue but the driver “eluded” police, said police spokesman John White.
The officer continued west on Sixth Avenue when he came across the vehicle parked with no one it, White said.
The officer looked around and spotted Rendon on foot in the eastbound lanes.
The officer approached Rendon, who had a gun, and he shot himself, White said.
West Sixth Avenue between Sheridan and Wadsworth boulevards was shut between 3 and 6 a.m. as police investigated.
