PUEBLO, Colo.—Pueblo County authorities say there is no evidence of foul play in the death of a 10-year-old boy found with a rope around his neck.

The family of Jonathan Lucas found him in the basement of their home about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday and called 911. The boy was taken to Parkview Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Pueblo County Coroner James Kramer says Jonathan died of asphyxia by ligature, and that his death appears to have been an accident. Sheriff’s officials say the boy had been with two of his three siblings.

Jonathan would have started 5th grade at North Mesa Elementary School next week.

School District 70 says counselors will be available for students.
