Don’t be deceived. The toasty temps that greeted metro residents today may feel familiar, but they won’t last forever — or even through tomorrow. After today’s high near 91 degrees, the National Weather Service says a cooler, wetter air mass will enter the area.

In the mountains above 10,000 feet, residents can expect not just scattered showers but snow starting Thursday and extending through Saturday.

Temperatures will plummet at lower elevations and in Denver. The high will fall 10 degrees, from 91 today to 81 degrees tomorrow. On Friday, the high will plunge another 20 degrees, from 81 to 61 degrees.

All that cool air will come with a generous dose of rain for the Front Range. The 20 percent chance of rain today will climb to a 30 percent chance tomorrow, and a 60 percent chance Friday.

And while you’re scrounging for that umbrella, you might want to unearth a few more blankets.

Overnight lows have hovered in the 60s and upper 50s for the last several weeks. But tomorrow and Friday night, lows will nose-dive into the 40s, at 48 and 47 degrees respectively.

Worried about the weekend? The weather service says the rain and chilliness will start to subside Friday night. By Saturday, the chance of thunderstorms will fade to 30 percent. It will still be cooler, at 67 degrees during the day and 54 degrees overnight.

So save your picnic for Sunday. By then, partly cloudy skies will bring only a slight chance of showers, and a high near 73 degrees.
