The body of another hiker is being retrieved this morning in Larimer County, the second in as many days.
Mike Fink, spokesman for Larimer County Search and Rescue, said late this morning that searchers had found the body of a hiker missing since Sunday. The missing man, David Price, 48, of Richmond, Ky., was last seen on Palisade Mountain in the Big Thompson Canyon near Drake.
The area is extremely rugged, said Fink, and about a dozen ground searchers aided by two dogs, a plane and helicopter were involved in the search.
Fink said the helicopter spotted something about 10 a.m. today and that searchers quickly got to the hiker. He said it would take about eight hours to bring Price’s body out.
A second hiker missing since Sunday was found dead on a cliff ledge in the Red Feather Lakes area about 7 p.m. Wednesday after a short search.
The Larimer County coroner identified the man as 57-year-old Dennis Kasten of Dover, Fla. Fink said Kasten had gone to the area to do some climbing last weekend.
The climber was reported missing late Wednesday, and Fink said that within minutes of setting up a command post, searchers using binoculars spotted the man on a cliff ledge about 300 yards away.
He said rescuers were able to quickly reach the individual but that he was unresponsive and pronounced dead.
Fink said the man’s friends said he enjoyed climbing and had gone to property owned by acquaintances in the Red Feather Lakes area.
The body was located 2 miles east of Box Acres and Prairie Divide Road.
Fink said August is typically one of the busiest months for Larimer County Search and Rescue.
