Apple Inc. is working on a software update for the iPhone that would address problems causing the handset to drop some calls, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

Hundreds of users of the iPhone 3G have posted complaints online about disconnected calls, the newspaper said. A software fix will be available in coming weeks, The Journal said.
