BEIJING — Cyclist Taylor Phinney of Boulder placed seventh in the qualification round for the men’s 4000m individual pursuit event at the Laoshan Velodrome here Friday with a time of 4:22.860. Phinney advanced to participate in the first round Saturday, when he will be paired with New Zealand’s Hayden Roulston, who placed second in the qualifying with a time of 4:18.990.
