Getting your player ready...

Catcher Yorvit Torrealba limped around the clubhouse the past few days with ice on his left knee. That pain became a concern today, requiring medical attention. After scratching Torrealba from the starting lineup, the Rockies called up Triple-A catcher Adam Melhuse for protection.

To make room on the roster, Colorado optioned outfielder Cory Sullivan back to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Melhuse played for the Rockies in 2000 and 2001, hitting .181 over 63 games.

“I know his knee has been bothering him and he was sucking it up and playing through the pain. But I don’t think it’s anything serious,” said Melvin Roman, Torrealba’s agent.

Melhuse has bounced around the big leagues this season and was added to the Sky Sox over the summer. Torrealba has suffered through a difficult season, losing his starting job after a difficult offensive start. He is hitting .250 with five home runs and 28 RBIs. He caught the final inning in Wednesday’s win and talked excitedly about it this morning.

“(Closer Brian) Fuentes came up big. I pumped my fist after that strikeout of Chris Young because I knew that was the important out,” Torrealba said.

He was removed from the lineup around 40 minutes before game time. Chris Iannetta replaced Torrealba. Melhuse was expected to arrive sometime during the game.
