Denver city officials say car pools, shuttle buses, bikes and feet are the best ways to get to Invesco Field at Mile High for Barack Obama’s Aug. 28 acceptance speech:
— Shuttle from downtown: The city tentatively plans to have Regional Transportation District buses run from 22nd and Blake Street, down Broadway to 8th to Zuni and then to Invesco Field at Mile High from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shuttles will stop at all existing bus stops along the route and will return riders to the same stops afterward. Fares haven’t been announced.
— Shuttle from Coors Field: Parking will be available for $5 per vehicle in Coors Field lots A, B and C. A free shuttle will take people to 5th and Walnut, where they can walk across the Broncos Bridge to Invesco Field. Shuttles will run from 11 a.m. 2 p.m. and again after the event.
— Parking: Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis on the Auraria campus, within walking distance of Invesco Field. Parking on residential streets around Invesco Field is limited to vehicles with residential permits.
— Light rail: Trains from the southwest and southeast corridors and from Union Station downtown will stop at Invesco Field Station. Pepsi Center Station will be closed.
— Walking: A pedestrian route marked with signs and staffed with volunteer guides will be run the 16th Street Mall and Larimer Street in downtown.
— Bicycling: Bike parking will be available within walking distance of the stadium. Details will be announced.
— Street closures: Interstate 25 will be closed for 5 1/2 miles, from Interstate 70 to 6th Avenue, from 5:30 p.m. until the Invesco Field program ends. Colfax Avenue will be closed from Mariposa Street to Federal Boulevard from 9 a.m until the Invesco Field program ends.
