VAIL, Colo.—Firefighters say lightning started a fire that caused an estimated $500,000 damage to a home in the Vail Valley.

Eagle River Fire Protection District Chief Charlie Moore says lightning Saturday started the fire within the floor structure. A resident called 911 after noticing smoke.

Firefighters say the 7,800-square-foot home was worth about $4 million.

No injuries were reported.
