Sen. Wayne Allard will try to block the Army from using condemnation to acquire land for its Piñon Canyon training site, he said Monday in a statement. “In spite of the Army’s continued commitment to acquire the land for expansion only from willing sellers, there is still apprehension among the landowners and I want to help ease that concern,” said Allard, a Loveland Republican.
Allard joins others in the Colorado delegation seeking to limit the Army’s plan. Allard has said, however, that property owners who want to sell should be allowed to do so.
Sen. Ken Salazar said he might oppose land purchases even from willing sellers.
