EVANS, Colo.—Three Weld County men face felony hazardous waste violations for allegedly dumping up to 400 gallons of diesel fuel into a storm drain.
Evans police arrested 32-year-old Jaswinder Singh, 44-year-old Kuldip Mijjar and 44-year-old Reyes Mireles late Sunday following the alleged dumping at a Fast Break convenience store.
Authorities say a customer called police and fire personnel after seeing the men dumping fuel into a parking lot drain about 3:15 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters say they stopped the fuel from flowing into the South Platte River, two blocks south of the convenience store and gas station.
Court affidavits indicate the men said they were trying to get rain water out of the diesel fuel tank, but turned off the pump when they saw fuel coming out.
