Most weekends, Denver’s Cherry Creek bike path teems with runners, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts. But this past weekend, swaths of the path were conspicuously empty.
Last week’s rain overran Cherry Creek’s banks, and in some stretches, the trail was completely flooded.
Fortunately, bright, sunny skies will dry up some of the excess water today and return the trail to its usual form. The high will be near 79, dropping to a chilly 55 degrees overnight.
Tomorrow, the high will start to settle back near the monthly average, which is 87 degrees. Temps will peak at 85 degrees Tuesday, 86 degrees Wednesday and 88 degrees Thursday.
By Friday, the National Weather Service expects temperatures to dip slightly. The high will reach 82 degrees.
As temps return to normal, rain will recede from the forecast. A slight possibility for thunderstorms — about 10 percent — is predicted for Wednesday and Friday.
Every other day this week, including today, will be dry and sunny. Overnight lows will hover in the mid-50s all week.
The weather service forecasts a warm weekend, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s. Skies will be mostly cloudy Saturday, turning mostly sunny by Sunday to greet delegates and national media arriving in Denver for the Democratic National Convention.
