
It’s astonishing how many brands of salsa are now on the market. But what’s even more astonishing is how much some of them cost.
With grocery-store salsa prices ranging from a couple of bucks a jar on the low end to $8 or more on the high end, its enough to make you cancel the chips-and-salsa portion of your evening.
Well, don’t. Because chances are you have most of the ingredients you’ll need for a perfectly serviceable salsa right in your home cupboard. Serve it with chips, or over eggs, fish or meat.
Salsa

Ingredients
1/2 small onion
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 garlic clove, peeled
2 tablespoons canned pickled jalapeño chile, drained
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup packed fresh cilantro (optional)
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
Directions
Pulse the onion, lime juice, garlic, jalapeños, salt and cilantro in a food processor until roughly chopped. Add the tomatoes, and pulse until chopped. Transfer to a fine-mesh strainer, and drain briefly.
