University of Colorado golfer Derek Tolan shot a second-round 73 on Tuesday at the the USGA U.S. Amateur Championship at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina, forcing him to play today in a 26-player playoff for the final two berths to continue on to match play.
The 26 competitors in the playoff are the second most in Amateur history. The most to compete in a playoff were 31 players in 1988.
Swarm joins Mammoth in Western Division.
The Colorado Mammoth will have a new division foe for the 2009 season after the National Lacrosse League’s realignment added the Minnesota Swarm to the Western Division, the NLL said.
The expansion Boston Blazers were tabbed for the seven-team Eastern Division, bringing the league total to 13 teams.
CU’s Marshall a Herman Trophy finalist.
University of Colorado junior soccer player Nikki Marshall was named one of 47 finalists on the Herman Trophy watch list after a vote of Division I members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The watch list is the first step toward determining collegiate soccer’s highest honor. Marshall has led the Buffs in scoring the past two seasons.
