PHOENIX — Prosecutors reviewing the death of a New York City woman who died in police custody at the Phoenix airport last year said Thursday that they have cleared the officers involved of any criminal wrongdoing.
Carol Anne Gotbaum accidentally asphyxiated herself after being chained to a bench after her Sept. 28 arrest. Police said Gotbaum, 45, was intoxicated and unruly after missing her connecting flight while on the way to a substance-abuse clinic in Tucson.
