The hits will have a little more pop and the touchdowns will count tonight at nine high school football stadiums, as the season opens with what is affectionately known as Zero Week.
From Palisade to Littleton, stadium lights will come on, signifying the start of the run to the November state championships. Along the way, teams will have 10 regular- season games to prove they are title-worthy.
While the rest of the schools will have another week to practice, there are nine games tonight, and four more Saturday, for those schools who needed an added week to get to their 10-game maximum.
Week 1 of the prep football season starts Thursday, along with the other six fall sports that have not yet started competition.
