DNC delegates, activists and visitors to the metro area have begun filtering through Denver International Airport. Many will find Denver’s weather welcoming.

The mercury will continue climbing to 90 today, the National Weather Service reports, before dipping slightly to 86 on Friday, 82 on Saturday, and a high of 85 degrees Sunday afternoon.

During the first part of the convention, which starts Monday, residents and newcomers can expect partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s.

As longtime Denverites will attest, the warm – but not searing – temps will feel pleasant, especially in the shade, because of the lower humidity.

Still, visitors are advised to drink extra water.

Many doctors agree that hydration is key to avoiding and remedying mountain sickness at higher altitudes. So if you’re new to the Mile High City, drink more water.

And if you’re packing extra canteens, you might want to throw in an umbrella or a spare poncho.

Even though the forecast shows only a slight chance of rain from Friday through Wednesday, weather conditions along the Front Range have a reputation for changing rapidly.

The weather service expects calm winds and lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s tonight through Tuesday night.
