Republican Senate candidate Bob Schaffer will come off the campaign trail for as long as two weeks beginning Tuesday, while his wife undergoes treatment for a tumor on her auditory nerve discovered in early June.
The tumor is benign and doctors predict a full recovery, but Schaffer campaign manager Dick Wadhams called the procedure to remove it “a very delicate surgery.”
Schaffer will accompany his wife, Maureen, to Phoenix for the procedure and the recovery, which is expected to take between seven and 14 days, Wadhams said.
Democrat Mark Udall, Schaffer’s opponent in the race, released a statement soon after the news became public.
“Maggie and I will keep Bob, Maureen, and their family very close in our thoughts today,” Udall said in a release. “Our prayers will be with Maureen for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.”
