The Fort Lewis men’s and women’s soccer teams are the choice of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference coaches to win the league, according to the annual preseason poll.
This is the first year since the poll began in 2003 that RMAC coaches did not pick the Metro State women to win the conference. The Roadrunners received three first-place votes and 15 points, while the Skyhawks received the other seven first-place nods and 11 points.
Colorado Mines and CSU-Pueblo received 32 points to tie for third, followed by Regis, Mesa State, New Mexico Highlands, Colorado Christian, Adams State and CU-Colorado Springs.
The Fort Lewis men got five first-place votes and nine points, followed by Regis (2, 15), Metro (1, 17), Mines, Mesa, CSU-Pueblo, UCCS and Colorado Christian.
Regis sophomore forward Nathan Kiefer (Broomfield H.S.) is the choice for preseason player of the year and Metro senior goalkeeper Ryan Vickery is the favorite for defensive player of the year.
Fort Lewis junior midfielder Jamie MacArthur was the player of the year pick, with Metro senior defender Nicole Cito (Dakota Ridge) getting the defensive player nod.
