GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—One man is in custody after an early-morning SWAT team operation in Grand Junction.
Officers responded to a residential area shortly before 1:30 a.m. Thursday on a report of shots fired.
Authorities say 24-year-old Julian Mendoza-Valdez had been in a dispute outside his home with a group of people who later went next door.
Police spokeswoman Kate Porras says a short time later, Mendoza-Valdez went to that home and pointed a rifle at a person who was opening the door. That person knocked the rifle toward the ceiling as the gun fired.
Mendoza-Valdez and his girlfriend then left.
He was captured several hours later.
Mendoza-Valdez was booked on suspicion of attempted first degree murder, felony menacing and first-degree burglary.
