TORONTO — Red Sox right-hander Josh Beckett won’t face the Yankees on Tuesday after skipping a bullpen session Saturday because of continued numbness and tingling in his pitching arm.

Manager Terry Francona said Beckett has “inflammation” in his elbow and likely won’t start again until Friday, when the Red Sox return home to open a three-game series against the White Sox.

The Royals placed third baseman Alex Gordon on the 15-day disabled list because of a torn muscle in his right quadriceps and activated infielder Alberto Callaspo, who went on the DL on June 28 for undisclosed medical reasons, one day after he was arrested for driving under the influence and spent several hours in jail.

• The Rangers recalled pitcher Brandon McCarthy from Triple-A Oklahoma to make his first major-league start of the season and optioned right- hander Kameron Loe to Oklahoma.

• The Blue Jays sent struggling right-hander Shaun Marcum to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled left-hander John Parrish.

• The Phillies placed outfielder Geoff Jenkins on the 15-day DL with a strained right hip flexor and purchased infielder Andy Tracy’s contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

• The Braves activated reliever Manny Acosta from the 15-day DL and optioned right-hander Matt DeSalvo to Triple-A Richmond.
