Getting your player ready...

Let’s salute Cejudo.

“I hope your column on Colorado Springs wrestler Henry Cejudo will give folks pause to reconsider their stance on undocumented immigrants from Mexico. Whether they are wrest-ling their way to Olympic gold, harvesting our fields or cleaning hotel rooms for the Democrats, these people come to the United States with the simple impulse to make life better for themselves and their kids. They are no more lawbreakers than those who hire undocumented immigrants rather than pay Americans working wages. In fact, the immigrants are far less culpable, because their intentions are far purer.”

Anne, Littleton

Kiz: When we honor Cejudo in Colorado, it would be sweet if the victory parade were led by Congressman Tom Tancredo.

Check out the Chinese.

“There should be a thorough investigation to get to the bottom of the scandal involving the Chinese gymnasts. It’s obvious to the world at least two of these girls were underage for Olympic competition. The U.S. was cheated of higher positions on the medal podium by a Chinese policy that disregards the true sportsmanship of the Games. This matter should not be swept under the rug with a shrug of the shoulders.”

A.J., Nashville, Tenn.

Kiz: Next year, if we see any of these same Chinese girls doing a backflip after pitching a shutout in the Little League World Series, would any of us be surprised?

Put Phelps in perspective.

“Both Jesse Owens and Jim Thorpe did something way more important at the Olympics than the eight gold medals won by swimmer Michael Phelps. Phelps should go down in history as the greatest swimmer ever. That’s a breeze compared to what Thorpe and Owens achieved.”

Thor, Arvada

Kiz: For being the best thing ever to hit the water, Phelps will earn millions of dollars. For giving hope to the downtrodden, Owens and Thorpe inspired millions of lives.

Stance is pure folly.

“Your views on Phelps’ place in Olympic history are laughable. Social significance? This is sports, you complete PC idiot. Phelps wasn’t running for secretary-general of the United Nations. If you spent any time off your doughnut-eatin’ butt you might understand. But you obviously are just looking to tear down the accomplishments of a man because he is white, you racist pig. In closing, drop dead.”

Ron, Denver

Kiz: Put my homely mug alongside a photograph of the handsome Phelps, and I get why you could call me a doughnut-eatin’ pig. But, last time I looked, Phelps and I both need SPF 50 sunscreen when we hang out at the pool.

Big’s beautiful.

“I was appalled at the headline referring to the ‘XL Golden Girl’ at the Olympics. Why must discus-thrower Stephanie Brown Trafton’s size make any difference in her accomplishments? Perpetuating the belief large is bad and tiny is good only keeps young girls starving themselves to conform to American standards of beauty.”

Sara, Denver

Kiz: Reminding us big can be beautiful is one of the many wonderful reasons the bright and funny Brown Trafton won my heart. She has a healthy outlook on herself and life. Now, you want to talk about a real health issue? There are so many McDonald’s restaurants open 2 4/7 in China that the thought of taking a country of 1.3 billion and super-sizing it is downright scary.

It’s only rock ‘n’ roll.

“Ha! The song ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Hero’ by the Chinese rockers Carsick Cars sounds like Velvet Underground B-filler. The Carsick Cars are much louder than they are creative, a common cause of critical confusion.”

Tube, arbiter of cool

Kiz: Folks tell me all the time I know nothing about hockey or football, so to hear I know nothing about rock music is so novel you made my day. I can buy a Carsick Cars CD in Beijing for $4.50. Does this mean you don’t want me to bring you one back to the States?
