BRIGHTON, Colo.—A Westminster man has been arrested on suspicion of fatal child abuse after authorities said an 18-month-old boy in his care drowned in a hot tub.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Department said Monday that 28-year-old Jarrod Michael Newsome surrendered last week and has been freed after posting a $20,000 bond.
Authorities say Newsome was looking after the boy and the boy’s 2-year-old sister on Aug. 12 when the boy was found in a backyard hot tub in unincorporated Adams County. He died in a hospital a week later.
Newsome is the children’s uncle.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 25 for an advisement hearing.
Newsome does not have a listed telephone number, and it was unknown whether he had an attorney.
